William J. Murphy, 1926-2006

William J. Murphy was admitted to the bar of New York State in 1950 and continued in the practice of law for more than 55 years, prior to his passing in 2006.  Mr. Murphy was a trial and appellate court attorney with extensive experience in the New York Court of Claims where he successfully litigated numerous claims on behalf of highway and building construction contractors. Mr. Murphy served as an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association and  represented clients in numerous arbitration proceedings. Mr. Murphy also served as a member of the City of Albany Planning Board. From the Firm’s beginning in 1996 Mr. Murphy served as Senior Counsel, providing invaluable guidance and support to all of us at the Firm.

Mr. Murphy received a Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, from Siena College in Loudonville, New York in 1948, and a law degree (L.L.B., J.D.), cum laude, from Albany Law School in 1950 where he was a member of the Law Review Board of Editors and the Justinian Society. Prior to his position as Senior Counsel with the Firm, Mr. Murphy had founded The Murphy Law Firm, P.C.

Mr. Murphy was a veteran of the United States Navy, where he served as a Sonarman 2nd class, and was honorably discharged in 1946. He was a life member and Past President of Wolferts Roost Country Club. Mr. Murphy was a union musician and a trumpet player in the Vincentian Institute Redjackets swing band and the Fort Craillo Marching Band.
